Summer Poem

Summer’s here and sunshine reigns, hot cookouts and baseball games.

We learned this poem to facilitate via playing instruments/doing actions that corresponded to the four parts of the rhyme. The idea is that the movements help them to remember the words (cognitive) and address range of motion/fine motor grasping/etc. (physical).

For SUMMER’S HERE the first group had summery scarves that they waved on this phrase. For SUNSHINE REIGNS, this group moved their arms up over their heads and brought them down like rays of sunshine. The third group was given maracas to imitate the sounds of a sizzling COOKOUT. The last group swang their arms like a BASEBALL bat.

Super fun, super simple summer activity to include in your geriatric music therapy groups!
