This is Halloween

I will start by saying I truly do not enjoy Halloween…at all. But of course being the theme fan I am, I can’t pass up a themed holiday Music Therapy group. This list is more or less a set of songs that could be used in any music group. Some of them I have specific interventions mapped out for, but some of them are just part of a playlist we have used during different Halloween parties/events.

  • Harry Potter Theme: wave white scarves as ghosts in the air
  • Superstition Stevie Wonder: light movement/stretching
  • Ding Dong the Witch is Dead Ella Fitzgerald
  • The Adams Family: sing along / re-write “The White Oak Family”
  • Monster Mash: have residents come up with 4 monster moves
  • Thriller Michael Jackson: adaptive dance with head side to side, arms out to side, jazz hands, hands on knees and stomps
  • Inside a House that is Haunted Song (see videos below): picture story board with an instrument or action for each element
  • Witchcraft Frank Sinatra
  • Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered Doris Day
  • I Put a Spell on You Nina Simone

This list as well as other “scary” instrumentals can be found on my spotify playlist https://open.spotify.com/user/127389392/playlist/1ZjG7tl9zK5lo6x0Tnlxqf

Here are the lyrics (aka the words from the book) and the chords to the whole song.

Here is a house that is haunted.
Here is the hand that knocked on the door of a house that is haunted.
Here is the hand that knocked on the door and startled the spider that dropped to the floor inside a house that is haunted.
Here is the hand that knocked on the door and startled the spider that dropped to the floor that frightened the ghost who awoke and cried, “BOO!” inside a house that is haunted.
Here is the hand that knocked on the door and startled the spider that dropped to the floor that frightened the ghost who awoke and cried, “BOO!” surprising the cat that jumped and screeched, “MEW!” inside a house that is haunted.
Here is the hand that knocked on the door and startled the spider that dropped to the floor that frightened the ghost who awoke and cried, “BOO!” surprising the cat that jumped and screeched, “MEW!” that shook up the bats that swooped through the air inside a house that is haunted.
Here is the hand that knocked on the door and startled the spider that dropped to the floor that frightened the ghost who awoke and cried, “BOO!” surprising the cat that jumped and screeched, “MEW!” that shook up the bats that swooped threw the air and jolted the owl who called, “WHO, WHO’S THERE?” inside a house that is haunted.

The monster screamed in fright and ran with all his might from HIS house that was haunted.
